Akin Alabi releases short animation on Queen Moremi

Akin Alabi, the Award-winning video director and creator of the popular “My Nigerian Proverb” series released in 3 Nigerian languages, subtitled and with captivating audiovisuals, “Akomolowe”, “Ilu Igbo” and “Karin Magana" airing on DSTV African Magic has just released an animation short film on Queen Moremi titled “Moremi The Legend”.

Queen Moremi Ajasoro was a legendary courageous queen whose sacrifice was pivotal to the history and liberation of the entire Yoruba race. His animation on Queen Moremi has been received with enthusiasm by children and parents alike who have hitherto been complaining of lack of educative content on Nigerian culture. Akin is passionate about documenting our rich cultural heritage and local languages to prevent them from going into extinction. His medium of expression is one that our technology-driven generation can relate to.

His recent documentary on The Rise of African Female Talking drummers is also set to be premiered at the IREP international Film Festival on Saturday March 23rd 2019 at Freedom Park Lagos, Nigeria. The documentary which put the spotlight on the women that are breaking gender and cultural barriers has also been selected at The African Film Festival, Dallas (T.A.F.F) , Afrika Film Festival and The Africa World Documentary Film Festival, California.

The documentary timely premiered in commemoration of the International Women's Day #IWD2019 celebrated worldwide, features Ara, the first female talking drummer in Nigeria, Ayanfola (talking drummer and drum-maker) and young female talking drummer, Adewonder.

Akin Alabi has over the years been consistent in conserving Nigerian culture using animation and video. He is determined to put out more of such riveting content in 2019.
